According to the latest information, on April 18, 2023, the last vote on the regulation establishing a carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM) will take place. After the vote, the provisions will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
We would like to remind you that according to the latest version of the CBAM Regulation known to us (which we wrote about in more detail in this article), the mechanism will cover such commodity groups as: cement, electricity, fertilisers, iron and steel, aluminum and hydrogen. Polymers are now to be excluded from the scope of the regulation, although the EU legislator does not exclude the possibility that this group will also be covered by the mechanism in the future. The first reporting obligations will appear from October 1, 2023.
The CBAM provisions will significantly affect the economic reality of EU importers and producers of goods covered by the mechanism from third countries. There is no doubt that this is the right moment to take action and prepare the company for planned changes.
