Hungary's tax authority (NAV) has postponed the update to the Online Invoice System, "NAV Online Számla," until September 15, 2025. Businesses must test and adapt their reporting data to avoid risks and meet reporting deadlines. Soon, the National Tax and Customs Administration will adopt a stricter approach toward certain online system errors. Consequently, 21 messages currently seen as warnings will be upgraded to the ERROR category. From September onward, these errors will block successful data submission; failing to identify and correct them may pose increased risks.
Originally scheduled for July 1, 2025, the stricter rules for WARNING messages in the Online Invoice system will now be implemented from September 15, 2025. This change aims to enhance data provision quality and support the eVAT (ANYK) system by assisting taxpayers in reconciling and verifying their VAT calculations using data from the Online Számla system.
The delay was deemed necessary because consultations revealed that changing certain validations requires considerable software development, giving businesses time to test and verify these changes. The tax authority will first apply the new validation rules in a test environment of the Online Invoice system, offering a testing window from September 1 to 15, 2025.
To prevent data provision issues and the risk of fines due to errors, businesses are advised to:
- Review and, if needed, adjust their data provision practices
- Conduct timely system tests
